I was looking at magazines to get involved with at Kent State, when I learned about UHURU. I thought it was great that Kent State had a magazine focused on minorities, particularly African-Americans. Being white, I am a part of the racial majority and I will never know what it is like to be a part of the minority. I got involved with UHURU because I wanted see the world from a minority perspective. I wanted challenge myself and expand my cultural horizons. My experience on UHURU has provided me with a great understanding of the effect race has on students and what it is like to be a minority. Working with and talking to students of all races has taught me that we are all the same regardless of skin color. |
